Best Hosting by Country on May 22, 2021 by Joanna Gatapia

For anyone who wants to have their own website, a web host is a critical part of your site. Without it, no one can gain access to your site and you won’t have storage space for your files.

But your website is only going to be as strong as your web host.

After all, what’s the point of having a site when it’s inaccessible?

That’s why I want to help you find the best web hosting in Uganda that will make your site available for your users anytime, anywhere.

Here, we’re going to review the 5 best web hosting providers in Uganda.

What to Look For in the Best Web Hosting in Uganda

Before we get into that, it’s important to keep a few things in mind. Namely:

  • Affordability
  • Security
  • Ease of Use
  • Customer Support
  • Uptime
  • Reputation

Affordability

No one wants to pay a hefty amount for a lousy web host. So always look for reasonable prices.

But don’t settle for cheap prices because those plans might not have the features you need for your site.

The best thing to do is find a web host that offers reasonable prices AND all the features you need.

Security

To make sure that your website is going to be safe and protected, look for a provider that gives SSL certificates in their plans.

A lot of web hosts have included these certificates as freebies. You might want to pick those packages since it saves you a lot of money.

Ease of Use

Ease of use is very important, especially when you don’t have any programming background.

Fortunately, there are web hosting services that already have drag-and-drop interfaces. Some even have their own website builders that don’t need any code. Still, others have pre-installed or easy-integrated WordPress.

Look for a web host that offers these options to make things much easier for you.

Customer Support

Customer service is very important simply because they’re the ones you’ll run to when there’s a technical problem.

Don’t accept customer service that isn’t 24/7 as your site is going to be up regardless of time. You want to be able to contact someone even in the early hours of the morning.

Uptime

The uptime rate of a web hosting provider will tell you if you’re going to be experiencing downtimes a lot or not. Needless to say, you want a provider that barely has any downtime at all.

Go for web hosts that only offer an uptime of around 99.9%.

Reputation

If you’re new to the whole web hosting thing, I suggest that you look up reviews of your chosen web hosts. This will give you an idea of what you can expect from your provider.

To add to that, you want to know if your provider has been in the business for a while now. If not, then there’s a chance that they might experience more problems in their operations.

What we’re trying to say is, go for a web host that has an excellent reputation.

Web Hosting in Uganda - 5 Best in 2021 BlueHost

Quick facts:

  • 99.93% (August 2023) uptime
  • 30-day money-back guarantee
  • Free SSL
  • Free domain on your first year
  • 50 GB SSD storage
  • One-click WordPress installer

If you’ve been looking for web hosts in Uganda, you’ve probably already heard of Bluehost

Bluehost is an international web host known for its affordable pricing, strong customer support, and very high uptime.

And when I say very high uptime, it means that they reach a rate of 99.93% (August 2023).

Bluehost offers several types of hosting services, but if you’re new to the digital space, you should go ahead and try their shared hosting plans first.

For a minimum of $2.95 (UGX10,415.66)*, you will get a free domain (for a year), SSL certificate, and 50 GB of storage.

To give you an idea, there aren’t a lot of web hosts that give that big storage space in their shared hosting plans.

Bluehost is popular for a reason, and a lot of their clients have stayed loyal over the years.

That only means that Bluehost is a great partner to have for your website.

Creating a website with BlueHost is a breeze. Check out this step-by-step guide on how to accomplish it:

Web Hosting in Uganda - 5 Best in 2021 A2 Hosting

Quick facts:

  • 100% (August 2023) uptime
  • 100 GB SSD storage
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Free site migration
  • 30-day money-back guarantee

A2 Hosting also has a remarkable uptime which makes it the second on this list.

It’s consistent with their 100% (August 2023) uptime, and if they ever go less than this, all its clients are backed with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Apart from that, A2 Hosting is also very affordable.

At just $2.99 (UGX10556.89)* a month, you already get a startup plan that has more than enough storage for small-to-medium websites.

The only problem with A2 Hosting is that it doesn’t have a free domain that comes with it. At most, it only has free registration. So if you want to have your own domain, you have to pay an additional fee.

Web Hosting in Uganda - 5 Best in 2021 GoDaddy

Quick facts:

  • Free domain
  • 24/7 hosting support
  • 100 GB SSD storage
  • One-click WordPress installer
  • 25 subdomains

GoDaddy might be a little more expensive than our two previous web hosts, but it can also be a good choice for any website.

This web hosting provider has a large data storage that is ideal for sites with a lot of multimedia.

Moreover, GoDaddy has a free domain whenever you subscribe to an annual plan. And if one domain isn’t enough for you, their economic plan (the most basic plan) has 25 subdomains that you can use.

Overall, GoDaddy is pretty impressive in terms of features and pricing.

But of course, they’re a little more expensive and it doesn’t have an SSL certificate to go with them. You can install an SSL certificate, though, but that requires extra steps.

Web Hosting in Uganda - 5 Best in 2021 InMotion

Quick facts:

  • 10 GB space
  • Google and WordPress easy installs
  • 1 email account
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Website builder

Another trustworthy web hosting provider is InMotion Hosting

InMotion Hosting is probably one of the cheapest web-hosting providers that you can ever find for your website.

What I love about it is it has a free SSL certificate, an email address, and robust security tools that will ensure your site’s safety.

However, there’s a catch.

Although InMotion Hosting is affordable, their lite plan only has 10 GB of storage space. It also doesn’t come with a free domain.

If you want a free domain, then you have to go for their Launch plan, which is twice as much as the company’s basic plan.

One thing you should note. InMotion Hosting’s Launch plan has similar features to Bluehost’s basic plan, except the former is priced higher.

Web Hosting in Uganda - 5 Best in 2021 Hosalite

Quick facts:

  • 500 MB storage
  • 2 databases
  • Unlimited subdomains
  • 30-day money-back guarantee

I wouldn’t want to end this list without any mention of our local web hosting companies.

So far, the best in our country is Hostalite. This is because it has an uptime of 99.9% and affordable plans.

However, there are a few things lacking in their basic plan - an SSL certificate, a domain, and a large enough storage space.

Unfortunately, Hostalite only gives 500 MB of disk space for your site. This might not be enough for your website.

This means that you might have to choose a more expensive plan just to get the features that you want.

Nonetheless, Hostalite is still a good choice, especially when you prioritize affordability and if you are just running a small website, such as a blog.

Web Hosting in Uganda FAQs

Have more questions about web hosting in Uganda?

Let’s take a look at some FAQs.

What is shared hosting?

Shared hosting is a type of web hosting service where your website is saved in a shared server.

Shared servers have other websites that store data in them.

What web hosting company should you get?

If you ask me, it would be better to choose a web host that has its own data centers just like Bluehost

That way, you are sure that they have full control of the servers and security. Plus, it is easier for them to solve issues on your server.

That said, go for web hosts that fit what YOU are looking for, price and features wise.

How much does a web hosting service in Uganda cost?

If you’re going for a shared hosting service, it will cost you at least UGX 100,000* a month.

However, if you’re subscribing for more than a year, some web hosts, like Bluehost, have more discounts.

Conclusion

A web host is a critical part of your website. So it makes sense to have a web host that you can trust.

These web hosts here are the most common providers in Uganda, which proves that they are also reliable and trustworthy.

So if you are looking for a web host that you can trust, choosing one from this list is going to be a good start.
