InMotion Review 2021 - Is This the Web Hosting for You InMotion

With over 2 decades of experience, InMotioin is one of the long-time players that have hosted thousands of websites already.

But is InMotion all it's cracked up to be?

Even better, is InMotion the perfect web host for you?

Here, I’ll go over an in-depth InMotion review. We’ll dive into its pros, cons, and features to hopefully give you more insight into whether this host is the best suited to satisfy your hosting needs.

So let’s get started.

InMotion Overview

Established in 2001, InMotion has been in the industry since the early days of dial-up internet and Napster.

Based in the US, they’re focused on providing fast, reliable, and scalable web hosting for large firms and individuals alike, having hosted hundreds of thousands of sites so far.

What a lot of people don’t know about InMotion is their dedication to saving the planet. Since 2010, the company has been doing green efforts that would reduce its overall carbon footprint.

From green data centers to using recycled materials in the office, InMotion shows that they can give a great performance while protecting the planet.

InMotion Review

For an in-depth review, we’ll consider the following:

  • Pros and cons

  • Products and features

  • Site experience

  • Security

  • Customer support

  • Pricing and packages

InMotion Pros

With InMotion, you get to enjoy these benefits:

  • Long money-back guarantee

  • Fast loading speeds

  • Supports 2 sites

Long money-back guarantee

While the industry standard for money-back guarantees is 30 days, InMotion goes above and beyond to provide its consumers with plenty of time to decide if they like the service. You’re given over 90 days to file for a no-fuss, full refund.

This is great if you need a fair bit of time to fully test out whether their hosting is fast and functional enough to suit your needs.

Fast loading speeds

Speed is one important factor when it comes to attracting page views, and with InMotion, you’ll get super quick loading speeds of 388 ms (August 2023).

This speed ranks InMotion as one of the best when it comes to low bounce rates. Since visitors don’t have to wait for the page to load, they will most likely stay and explore your site.

Faster loading speeds also result in your page being ranked higher by the Google algorithm, so you’ll have a better chance at ranking #1 here.

Supports 2 sites

InMotion allows you to host up to 2 sites on their basic plan. This means that you’ll get greater value if you’re looking to host 2 smaller sites instead of one big one.

It’s better than most of the competition here as single-site support is common in most basic packages. This alone makes InMotion’s basic Shared hosting plan a great value-for-money.

InMotion Cons

As for the downsides, here’s what you can expect:

  • Not the best uptime

  • Backup included separately

  • Pricey basic package

Not the best uptime

Considering InMotion’s popularity and experience, the uptime is a bit disappointing, to say the least.

A score of 99.99% (August 2023), while not bad, still means more hours of lost site time that could impact your sales and customer loyalty if you’re thinking about eCommerce. Not to mention the added inconvenience it creates when your site goes down.

It also means greater downtime, which may affect your site’s Google algorithm and lower your page's ranking on Google.

As we said, a 99.99% (August 2023) uptime is not bad, but it also isn’t the best. The best hosting providers are those that are able to reach 99.99% in real uptime rates (instead of just a guarantee).

Backup included separately

To get access to essential automated backups, you’ll have to dish out an extra $48 for 2 years of daily backups (i.e $2 per month).

Note: These prices may change over time.

This can add to their already pricey packages and be difficult to afford if you’re looking to run a small site.

Pricey basic package

With InMotion’s basic Launch shared hosting packages starting from $5.99 (introductory pricing), it is a bit expensive compared to other available and similarly experienced web hosting providers such as Bluehost (you can purchase its basic plan for just $2.99 per month).

Of course, you can take into account the additional website that you can run with their Launch plan. However, if you aren’t in need of another website, this additional cost and feature are not going to be of much use.

InMotion Products and Features

All of InMotion’s plans come with unlimited bandwidth and free advertising credits that could be useful in marketing your site.

You’ll also get a free domain for a year, so you can save up to around $15 for the first year.

InMotion’s basic package Launch comes with 50GB of lightning-quick SSD storage space that ensures your content loads quickly. Also, 50GB is more than enough for the average small site.

You’ll also get email support, allowing 10 email addresses to manage client communication. This is more than what most web hosting providers give.

What’s more, you’ll get free WordPress migration when you sign up with InMotion for a stress-free transfer experience.

When it comes to server locations, though, InMotion is a bit restricting. This is because they only have servers in the US. So if you are looking for extra speedy service overseas, this web host might not be the best option.

InMotion Site Experience

You’ll get access to InMotion’s site builder in all their packages. This makes creating the perfect site a lot simpler, allowing you to make a site design in less than 30 minutes!

Check out this video for a tutorial:

Also, you’ll get 1 click installs of over 400 applications that make adding functionality, such as eCommerce to photo galleries, so much easier.

Even better, you can choose to get WordPress hosting for pre-installed WordPress and optimized to give you a better experience. This includes themes and other site features that you might need.

And, all the tools you’ll need are stored in the simple cPanel that hardly requires a learning curve. So you can get started right away.

InMotion Security

InMotion provides exceptional security in all its plans with free SSL certificates by LetsEncrypt.

You’ll also get free malware scans that check your site for outdated software and code. This prevents any hackers from exploiting loopholes in your site.

And, DDoS protection is given to protects your site from being overrun by hackers and bots that are looking to take down your site.

Daily backups are provided (if you pay extra), which ensures your files are available at all times if you ever suffer from any data loss.

What’s more, you can rest assured that their servers are safe and secure with 24/7 monitoring and security systems in place. What this does is provide backup power to keep your site running even if there is a power outage.

InMotion Customer Support

InMotion provides 24/7 customer support that is available by phone, email, and live chat.

Their support reps are attentive and knowledgeable, able to effectively handle any issues or tasks, big or small.

However, you may have to wait for some time to get a reply.

Selecting their higher-priced premium VPS and dedicated server packages allows you to access their support teams directly. With this, you’ll get faster responses and shorter waiting durations.

Everyone can, however, get access to their knowledge hub that contains informative how-to guides that walk you through the web design process and commonly faced problems. This makes solving issues so much easier without having to wait on customer support.

InMotion Pricing and Packages

This means that you won’t have to worry about scalability. Large businesses or sites that are likely to grow can stay on the InMotion network without having to go through the hassle of finding a different hosting provider.

InMotion FAQs

Does InMotion have cPanel?

Yes.

All InMotion’s packages come with cPanel that includes software installs, email management, site analytics, security, and more all in one simple dashboard.

Unlike some other hosting providers, this isn’t a custom-made cPanel. So if you’re migrating from another platform, you can enjoy the same interface, meaning there is no more need for a learning curve.

Does WordPress recommend InMotion for hosting?

No.

InMotion isn’t recommended by WordPress but still offers WordPress support on all packages. You can pre-install WordPress for free on InMotion’s basic shared hosting plans, plus managed WordPress solutions are offered to give you the best WordPress-optimized experience.

Are InMotion’s plans expensive?

This depends on what your budget is and what you consider to be valuable in a hosting plan.

For most, a $5.99 monthly fee is expensive given that competitors can give a $3 package with almost the same features.

However, if your priority is being able to run 2 websites without needing to buy another plan, then this is a great option for you.

It’s up to your priorities and preferences that will determine if InMotion’s plans are expensive.

Wrap Up

If you’re looking for a fast and scalable web hosting that can support your site’s needs, while providing awesome security and features, then InMotion is a great option you may want to consider.

While its uptime isn’t the best, it isn’t bad either. And, though, it might be a bit pricey compared to its competitors, keep in mind you’re also getting a lot of features.

All in all, InMotion is a great web hosting that is trusted by thousands of site owners today.
